Sunday Fun

Sunday November 5, 2010
Today was an adventure. The Metro drivers all decided to go on strike so the entire subway system was shut down today. This made getting to church fun. We were going to a ward that is across town because there are several expat families that attend that ward. We left at 8:30 and caught a bus. With only 1 change of bus we made it to church about 10 minutes before 10. Perfect timing. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Jeff had already made friends with one of the Chilean families in the ward. Another family in the ward, the Laycocks are friends of ours from Alpine. He is the mission president for the Santiago East mission. The presidents of the 2 other missions in Santiago are in our ward. There is a doctor with the Air force who is on an exchange with the Chilean air force for a few years and a couple other businessmen. It should be a great ward for the kids since they will have some English speaking friends. There are 3 or 4 young women and 2 or 3 young men that are from the United States. They were all very excited to have Jennie and Nate and told them that they will be having camp for both the YM and the YW this summer (January) . In primary they held one class for the English speaking kids and one class for the Spanish speaking kids. They did sharing time together. Sacrament meeting and all of the Adult classes were in Spanish. Nate’s Sunday school class had a translator but Jennie’s was all in Spanish. We got home from church about 3 in the afternoon. After that we just relaxed. We are getting ready for a big week. Time to get working hard and get moved into a permanent (well at least for 6 months) apartment!
